Proverbs and Text

Working on a series of monochromatic illustrative sculptures many of them inspired by literal translations of proverbs making them playful and humourous.

Title: Bird Brained.

I have used black underglaze and am toying with the idea of using clear glaze on only some parts of the sculpture or using matt clear glaze on the entire sculpture.

 Title - Ho chi pin.

Work in Progress- Two Peas in a Pod , a large sculpture  18 inches in length, which just about fitted in my kiln.

Sketching Metamorphosis

Started sketching iterations of the vase I am studying. I started with aquatic animal forms which gradually transformed into more freeflowing human forms. The first few drawings were more controlled after which I gradually tried to lose control , drawing without thinking.

Visit to The National Museum

Visited the National Museum of Oman today. What caught my attention was this glazed ceramic jug from the Islamic Civilization (Afghanistan) dated 6th-13th century CE. It is a moulded, glazed ceramic jar decorated with a band of floral motifs.

Other similar objects from the same period

What about the object moves you?

What attracted me was that it resembles a human figure and it fuels my imagination.

What do you think about the form of the object and surface decorations

It is slender and elegant. It has a slender cylindrical neck and a round belly to store liquids. The handle is created with twisted coils which looks like a braid.Love the glaze. It is chipped from one side which reveals that it is a terracotta jug with a green glaze. It is decorated with plant motifs
