Still Life

 I have spent the last one month creating some new illustrative ceramic works and completing the previous works.

 Still Life

I started an installation of 2 D slab built everyday objects which I found really interesting. It was an experiment and the most important part was deciding which objects I would sculpt. I thought of objects commonly used in Oman -a coffee culture, damask roses used to make perfumes (itar), pomegrantes which are locally grown here and stray cats that wander the streets. I also added playing cards and moths lying on my studio table. I would be very interested to add some surprise elements like say an anatomical human heart, and some contemporary objects like candies, sunglasses and cellphones. I am enjoying the randomness of these things and don't know whether I must tie them up into a meaningful concept and whether that is necessary. At the moment I am just playing and having a great deal of fun!!This piece ties in with my need to tell stories which might be incomplete , letting the audience decide the ending.

Work in Progress- Sitting on a high horse

The sculpture has several parts. The legs body tail and human figure will be assembled once fired.
 

Work in Progress- dragoncopter

 Creating a dragoncopter in 3 parts. the head, the wings and the tail.

Using a readymade object to create a sculpture

Used a filter coffee grinder and a hairbrush to stack into a sculpture. Created the legs with earthenware legs. Drew a face on the brush with pen and ink.

 

Two Peas in a Pod

 Applied underglaze have ordered matt clear glaze for the next firing. Colours used - black and lime green.

Proverbs and Text

 Working on a series of monochromatic illustrative sculptures many of them inspired by literal translations of proverbs making them playful and humourous.

Title: Bird Brained. 

I have used black underglaze and am toying with the idea of using clear glaze on only some parts of the sculpture or using matt clear glaze on the entire sculpture.

 Title - Ho chi pin.

Work in Progress- Two Peas in a Pod , a large sculpture  18 inches in length, which just about fitted in my kiln.
